For centuries, sailors have ventured out to sea and lived through storms, and they will continue to do so for centuries to come. However, once every 100 years a storm comes along that is so big and so destructive that it is called the “Storm of the Century.” Storms such as this present a crisis for some and an opportunity for others. For all who experience it, it is something they will remember for a lifetime.

In late October of 1991, three separate storm systems collided off the coast of New England. The resulting combination formed a well-defined eye, spanned 1,500 miles, and moved in retrograde motion from the east to the west. Even though it qualified in all respects as a hurricane, the National Hurricane Center did not name it because it developed considerably north of the Caribbean’s Hurricane Alley, and its origin was remarkably unusual. Because this storm was so big, so ferocious and so destructive, one meteorologist described it as “The Perfect Storm. “Captain Brudnicki is the real-life Captain of the Coast Guard ship that performed two dramatic rescues during the storm that became known as The Perfect Storm, and inspired the book that was on the New York Times best-seller list and the blockbuster movie. These two dramatic rescues during the Perfect Storm amount to only 100 hours of a 30-year career of assessing risks, making decisions and inspiring teamwork.

Captain Brudnicki retired from the Coast Guard in March 2002 after 30 years of active duty. Now that he no is longer paid to get cold and wet, Captain Brudnicki uses the experience he gained from leading successful high-risk missions with international visibility to deliver a message of leadership, teamwork and risk-management. Based on Captain Brudnicki’s presentations, corporations, associations, and organizations can implement the steps necessary for success while avoiding the pitfalls. Captain Larry Brudnicki motivates and inspires audiences, striking a perfect balance between humor and real-life drama as he tells a true story of leadership, teamwork, courage, and risk management strategies. Every type of business and industry will find Captain Brudnicki’s presentation valuable because the strategies that were successful saving lives during the Perfect Storm can help any organization become more successful.

Captain Brudnicki has appeared on ABC, The History Channel, The Learning Channel, Discovery, The Travel Channel and The Weather Channel. His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Coast Guard Medal for heroism, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Coast Guard Commendation Medal (four awards), the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal (two awards).
