Why Me?

I have enjoyed a great deal of success and fulfillment as a television producer for four decades. I have had the good fortune to have received 16 Emmys, an Academy Award, and more than 100 other awards and honors.
My most impressive accomplishments have been "against the odds" -- meaning that they should never have happened. All this in one of the most competitive, brutal businesses in the world. A while back I began asking myself: "Why me?" Why am I getting films made and series on the air that conventional wisdom says can't happen? That includes selling my first TV series to CBS in Hollywood when I was just 22! My question is all the more perplexing when you realize that I come from a middle-class background with no special talents and no Hollywood connections. So why am I a Hollywood success story?
It took me awhile to identify my "ingredients for success" and realize that they really apply to any career or pursuit. And I have now taken this information and incorporated it into a keynote speech entitled, "Producing An Oscar-Winning Career...Without Having To Win An Oscar!" It has been most gratifying for me to share my experiences and insights with people in all types of professions all across the country. Professional speaking is a most rewarding way of giving something back for all the good fortune I've enjoyed.
Among my ingredients for success are what I call the "4 P's": Passion...Persuasion...Perseverance...and Purpose. And because I value integrity, honesty and ethical behavior above all else, I am able to speak to the fact that ethics and success are not only compatible, they are essential to each other. I share all this and more in my speeches, and I'm hopeful that I am enriching the lives of careers of those who attend my presentations.
